Rejection

Dear [Filmmaker],

The [name of] Film Festival would like to thank you for your submission to our 2006 [. . .] Filmmaker Competition.  We regret to inform you that your film,

[name of film], was not chosen for the [. . .]

Filmmaker Competition.  Due to the vast amount of submissions of high quality and merit, our decisions

were exceedingly difficult to make.  Unfortunately, the exhibition limitations only allow for a small amount of films to be screened in comparison to the submissions we

received.  As you can imagine, it is a difficult task to make our final selections, as each film has its own unique

style and production elements.

While we understand the disappointment of receiving a letter such as this, we want to stress the importance of your achievement in making a film.  Completing a film is an extraordinary feat, one that you should take great pride in.  We would like to encourage your contributions to filmmaking, and we hope you will consider our festival for future submissions. We appreciate your submission and interest in our [. . .] Filmmaker Competition.  Thank you,

and best of luck in your future projects.

Dear [Filmmaker],

Thank you very much for entering your work in the [Name of] Film and Video Festival. We received record number of entries this year (more than 600) -  far more entries than we could possibly program. Additionally, the quality of the entries overall this year was very high.  This, plus the limited number of programming spots we have, made the selection process extremely difficult. There are many quality works that we wonÕt be able to show. Unfortunately, we will not be able to program your work this year.

The previewing took much longer than anticipated (especially as many entries were viewed more than once).  Thank you for your patience. We will keep your contact information on file for next yearÕs entry process. Once again, we truly appreciate your interest in [festival].
